9 Tips to Outsmart a Small BedRoom

If you have a problem like my bedroom, which is a room too small for a decent living in, don't give up yet. There are ways to outsmart it, like what I did to my room.

1. Use Light Hues

Light colors enlarge the visual of the room and makes it look more spacy than it really is. I used white to make it more clean, but if you'd like to add some colors, stick to light colors please--both for walls and furniture.

2. Accentuate

You can also paint one wall different than the other three, or cover one with wallpaper. Find bigger pattern or if you like stripes, use the big horizontals to widen up the room--or if you like it vertical, find a small one. Choose the wall with most empty space for this, then put painting(s) or photograph(s) on it. Remember, only one wall!

3. Everything On The Wall

Since you have a very limited space, use the vertical ones. Decorate your walls with built-in furniture to make it more compact, clean and tidy. Avoid loose furniture because it needs more space no matter how small it is. This is where you really need an interior designer, fella! ;)

4. More & More Storage

Make good use of every empty space available. The bottom of the bed, the upper of the wardrobe.. Every space can be useful and you will always need more space for your stuff. My suggestion: use the whole of one or two walls to the very top of it, and leave at least two walls empty with only bed and painting(s) on it.

5. Double the Functions

Don't be satisfied with only one function to one furniture. Double the bed as also sofa, double the work desk as also the dressing table.. Your small room would have more functions than big rooms out there and you need only less than 10sqm (around 107.6 square foot)!

6. Up, up!

A small room for two, or maybe three, four? Build bunk beds! It's the most efficient use of room for many, and creates many hideaways for kids or private corners for adults. Either way, sharing can really be fun!

7. Light Up

Light colors, checked. Light light? Definitely. Use as many lights as you can but avoid down lights. Pendant lamps, table lamps, floor lamps, use your imagination to light up every corner, but choose only simple armature/fixture for it. This will create highlights to many corners of the room. Use cool colors for reading and warm colors for more romantic ambient.

8. Window Treatment

Only limit your curtain models to flat shades: roman blind, vertical/horizontal blind, and rolling blinds. Avoid the bulgy curtains because it takes space and makes the room feel smaller.

9. Simplify the Lines

It is very tricky to use moldings and profiles to the furniture in small room. If you do not know how, just keep it simple with light lines. Avoid heavy and bulky furniture, make built-ins instead. Any size of the room will work out if you just know how.
